Schindzielorz attacks again: "We will not reduce our ambitions"

Schindzielorz attacks again: "We will not reduce our ambitions"

The season is over, and VfL Wolfsburg is looking ahead. A new coach is in, but the goals remain the same, emphasized sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz.

At least that worked in the end. The hope that the change of coach from Ralph Hasenhüttl to Daniel Bauer would at least bring about a change in mood has been fulfilled at VfL Wolfsburg . A 1-0 win at Mönchengladbach , the best performance in weeks, four points from the last two matches, a conciliatory end to a disastrous second half of the season.

And yet, considering the overall picture, there's no reason to be complacent. Sebastian Schindzielorz agrees: "We have to be self-critical and judge ourselves harshly," demands the sporting director. After all, VfL has miserably missed its targets, generated a plethora of negative headlines, and once again had to fire its coach.

The reference to serious omissions

Schindzielorz's approach is accordingly clear. His outlook on what must now happen also points to serious shortcomings this season. "We need to do more, work harder, adapt our content better, and work better with each other." A good idea, but what has prevented VfL from doing so this season?

Next season, of course, everything should be better. Wolfsburg will stick to its goal of "international business." With a new coach and a new team, Schindzielorz emphasizes the renewed challenge for the national top spot: "We will not reduce our ambitions."

Coach search: "We are in the middle of the process"

The key question is the new coach. "We're in the middle of the process," explains the sporting director. "Accuracy comes before speed." Many industry insiders expect Copenhagen's Jacob Neestrup , who is well known to managing director Peter Christiansen, to be the next man on the coaching bench.

Schindzielorz explains: "We've been looking at a few names and will work through them gradually. It's about the content, how we want to play football, how we want to build VfL Wolfsburg in general. We need more dominance. For that, we're generally looking for the personnel, players, and coaches." This season, there has been far too little fit.
